The Philip and Barbara Kaplan Scholarship (Internal)

The Philip and Barbara Kaplan Scholarship was established by Ambassador Philip S. Kaplan (’59) and Barbara Kaplan to support a UConn student of exceptional academic achievement with a demonstrated commitment to pursuing a career in international public service. The scholarship awards up to $5,000 to defray tuition costs at the university.

Before embarking on an application, interested students must set up a meeting with Dr. Vin Moscardelli, Director of UConn’s Office of National Scholarships & Fellowships, to determine their eligibility for this award.  He may be reached via Nexus or Email (vin.moscardelli@uconn.edu).

Eligibility:

• Be a senior undergraduate student who plans to graduate in spring 2025
• Be enrolled in the University’s Honors Program or participate in Enrichment Programs in some other way
• Demonstrate exceptional academic achievement
• Demonstrate through activities and academic interests a commitment to pursuing a career in international public service via diplomacy, international affairs, law and international development career paths.

Application Materials:

Application materials include a 500-word personal essay explaining the candidate’s career objectives, an unofficial transcript, a resume, and one letter of recommendation from a faculty member.
