Gaither Junior Fellows

The Gaither Junior Fellows program is a very selective, paid postgraduate internship program. Undergraduates should apply in their senior year (students who graduated the previous year but who have not begun graduate studies are also eligible to apply). Fellows spend one year working for a research associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in one of their research divisions:  (a) Democracy, Conflict & Governance; (b) American Statecraft; (c) Nuclear Policy; (d) Technology & International Affairs; (e) Middle East; (f) International Security & Political Economy; (g) Asia; (h) Russia & Eurasia; (i) Africa, (j) Global Order & Institutions; (k) Sustainability, Climate & Geopolitics; (l) Europe.

Students who have a serious career interest in international affairs and international policy are encouraged to apply.

The Gaither program generally sends information to participating universities in early October. Information is updated annually and essay topics change from year to year. Any important programmatic changes are also announced annually with the new application materials. Interested students should check back in early October for additional information on the campus nomination process and make an appointment with ONSF Director Dr. Vin Moscardelli to discuss their candidacy.  UConn may nominate up to two students for this award each year.  See the Gaither Junior Fellows Program 2025 Bulletin for additional important information on the application process, eligibility requirements, program-specific essay prompts, etc.
